2016 INTERNATIONAL EMMY® AWARDS WINNERS SPAN BRAZIL, GERMANY, JAPAN, SWEDEN, THE UK & THE US

Dustin Hoffman & German Actress Christiane Paul Win Best Performance Categories


NEW YORK, November 21, 2016 – The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the winners of the 44th International Emmy® Awards tonight at a Black-Tie Gala event attended by television professionals from around the world and hosted by Alan Cumming at the New York Hilton.

 

2 Special Awards and 10 Emmy statues were presented by the International Academy during the evening.

German and British programs led the night with 3 Emmys each in the Best Performance by An Actress, Documentary and Drama Series categories for German programs and Best Performance by An Actor, Comedy and TV Movie/ Mini-Series categories for British programs.

Programs from Brazil (Telenovela), Japan (Arts Programming), Sweden (Non-Scripted Entertainment) and the United States (Non-English Language US Primetime Program), each won one Emmy.

Danish actress Birgitte Hjort Sorenson, star of political drama Borgen, presented the International Emmy Directorate Award to Maria Rørbye Rønn, Chief Executive Officer & Director General of Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR), which pioneered and drove the success of Nordic Noir drama around the world.

Actor, director, producer Tony Goldwyn, currently starring as President Fitzgerald Grant in Scandal presented the International Emmy Founders Award to Shonda Rhimes, Writer, Executive Producer and Creator behind global hit series Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, Private Practice, How to Get Away with Murder and The Catch.

The 10 International Emmy Award Winning programs and performances are: The Man Who Shot Hiroshima (Arts Programming), Dustin Hoffman (Best Performance by an Actor), Christiane Paul (Best Performance by an Actress), Hoff The Record (Comedy), War of Lies (Documentary), Deutschland 83 (Drama Series), Francisco, El Jesuita (Francis, the Jesuit) (Non-English Language US Primetime Program), The Great Swedish Adventure (Non-Scripted Entertainment), Hidden Truths (Telenovela), and Capital (TV Movie/Mini-Series).
