2016 INTERNATIONAL EMMY® AWARDS WINNERS SPAN BRAZIL, GERMANY, JAPAN, SWEDEN, THE UK & THE US

Dustin Hoffman & German Actress Christiane Paul Win Best Performance Categories


NEW YORK, November 21, 2016 – The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the winners of the 44th International Emmy® Awards tonight at a Black-Tie Gala event attended by television professionals from around the world and hosted by Alan Cumming at the New York Hilton.

 

2 Special Awards and 10 Emmy statues were presented by the International Academy during the evening.

German and British programs led the night with 3 Emmys each in the Best Performance by An Actress, Documentary and Drama Series categories for German programs and Best Performance by An Actor, Comedy and TV Movie/ Mini-Series categories for British programs.

Programs from Brazil (Telenovela), Japan (Arts Programming), Sweden (Non-Scripted Entertainment) and the United States (Non-English Language US Primetime Program), each won one Emmy.

Danish actress Birgitte Hjort Sorenson, star of political drama Borgen, presented the International Emmy Directorate Award to Maria Rørbye Rønn, Chief Executive Officer & Director General of Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR), which pioneered and drove the success of Nordic Noir drama around the world.

Actor, director, producer Tony Goldwyn, currently starring as President Fitzgerald Grant in Scandal presented the International Emmy Founders Award to Shonda Rhimes, Writer, Executive Producer and Creator behind global hit series Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, Private Practice, How to Get Away with Murder and The Catch.

The 10 International Emmy Award Winning programs and performances are: The Man Who Shot Hiroshima (Arts Programming), Dustin Hoffman (Best Performance by an Actor), Christiane Paul (Best Performance by an Actress), Hoff The Record (Comedy), War of Lies (Documentary), Deutschland 83 (Drama Series), Francisco, El Jesuita (Francis, the Jesuit) (Non-English Language US Primetime Program), The Great Swedish Adventure (Non-Scripted Entertainment), Hidden Truths (Telenovela), and Capital (TV Movie/Mini-Series). International Academy Launches JCS International Young Creatives Award

New York, November 16, 2016 – The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences & JCS International today announced that they are joining forces for the creation of a new initiative- The JCS International Young Creatives Award- designed to discover, recognize and foster young talent from around the world while creating a global conversation around Peace.

The new competition which is open to entrants between the ages of 18 and 30, will have a different peace-based theme every year. Entrants must submit a 1 minute video on the theme of the year. The theme for 2017 is “Women Peacemakers”.

“We thank JCS International for their commitment to help discover young talent from around the world and look forward to adding this new initiative to the International Academy’s important work.” said Bruce L. Paisner, President & CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

“I have spent much of my professional life championing the cause of peace, supporting the arts, and working to empower the next generation,” said Michal Grayesky, President of JCS International. “I am delighted that JCS International as a media group is partnering with the Academy to create this first-of-its-kind award to celebrate enterprising young artists who share our commitment to peace and I look forward to an ongoing partnership. And I am particularly proud that this year’s theme focuses on female empowerment and peace, two values I live by.”

3 Winners will receive the JCS International Young Creative Award, every year at the International Emmy® World Television Festival Nominee Medal Ceremony, in New York, alongside the International Emmy® Award Nominees.

JCS International and the International Academy will make a live announcement for the launch of this new competition at the International Emmy® World Television Festival’s Opening Cocktail, held on Friday, November 18, at the United Nations Delegates Lounge, in association with United Nations Women for Peace. The Festival’s Opening Cocktail is attended yearly by the International Emmy® Award Nominees, Academy Members, Jurors and their industry guests who fly in from over 50 countries to attend the International Emmy® Awards Gala.

Rules & Regulations for the JCS International Young Creatives Award will be posted on the Academy’s website www.iemmys.tv, in February 2017. The competition opens in June 2017.
