EMILIO AZCÁRRAGA JEAN, PRESIDENT AND CEO OF MEXICO’S GRUPO TELEVISA TO RECEIVE 2017 INTERNATIONAL EMMY® DIRECTORATE AWARD

New York, April 25, 2017 – Emilio Azcárraga Jean, Chairman of the Board, President and CEO of Grupo Televisa, the world’s largest Spanish-language content provider and Mexico’s largest broadcaster and pay television provider, will receive the 2017 International Emmy® Directorate Award, on Monday, November 20, in New York City.

“Emilio Azcárraga Jean is a strategic and visionary leader- who has successfully and relentlessly navigated an increasingly competitive media landscape to grow his company’s businesses.” said Bruce L. Paisner, President & CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. “This year in particular, the Academy is pleased to honor Emilio and to celebrate the major contributions of Mexico to the global television community.”

Emilio Azcárraga Jean has been at the helm of Televisa since April 1997. Under his leadership, the group has developed into a diversified and integrated media, telephone, cable and satellite pay television services company, in Mexico and across the world. Televisa distributes the content it produces through several broadcast channels in Mexico, 26 pay-tv brands in Mexico and abroad, and television networks, cable operators and over-the-top services in over 50 countries.
In January, Grupo Televisa and Univision Holdings, Inc. announced a strengthened and expanded relationship between the two companies by unifying both of their content development and production efforts. Both companies will benefit from a single, integrated focus on the Hispanic audience in the United States and the domestic Mexican audience, as well as from potential cost synergies from aligned content initiatives.

Emilio Azcárraga Jean said: “Television dissolved the borders between the US and Mexico a long time ago. Technology has allowed us to connect, to share our values and to get to know each other better as friends, partners and neighbors. Our countries are more than public policies that come and go–history brings us together and geography unites us. This recognition is proof that if we continue working to grow together, we can develop a promising shared future. On behalf of Televisa and the Spanish-speaking world that we serve, I thank the Academy for this award.”

Ludo Studio / ABC3 Australia / Screen Australia / Screen Queensland

Doodles is an interactive multi-platform children’s comedy series created with its online audience. The show takes children’s drawings and ideas from all over the world and turns them into funny animated episodes. Each week, the Doodles audience interacts with the show’s creators and cast online, and together they create each episode’s all-new animated adventure. Kids and their parents snap, tag and share their doodles on the shows and the broadcaster’s website and social sites. Audiences comment on and vote for their favorite doodles helping to choose a doodle to bring to life as the lead character in its own animated adventure. That episode then premieres on ABC3, our website, doodles.com.au and all other platforms. Conceiving Doodles as digital from the outset embraces the possibilities of interactive storytelling, and gives us the opportunity to create a show that “goes where the audience is”. Doodles gives them that involvement by allowing children and their parents to participate in the making of each episode, helping them to create their very own television series.
