36th INTERNATIONAL EMMY® AWARDS NOMINEES ANNOUNCED

Cannes/MIPCOM, October 13, 2008:  Nominations for the 36th International Emmy® Awards were announced today by The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences at a press conference at MIPCOM. There are 40 nominees in 10 categories. The full list of Nominees follows this release. Winners will be announced at a Black-Tie Ceremony on November 24, 2008 at the Hilton New York Hotel.

First time ever nominated programs in the new Telenovela category are The Invasion Igtiyah (Jordan), Lalola (Argentina), One Night of Love (Russia) and Tropical Paradise (Brazil).  

Nominations span over 16 countries with first ever nominations for Jordan and Peru. The United Kingdom leads with 8 nominations, followed by Brazil (6), Argentina & Japan (4) and China & Denmark (3). The competition took place with three rounds of judging over a period of 6 months, with participation from over 600 judges in 50 countries.

“Every year, The International Emmy Awards put the spotlight on the best international television and, increasingly, we recognize programs that are soon-to-be hit shows around the world, including the US,” said Academy President Bruce L. Paisner, also President of Hearst Entertainment. “We congratulate the 2008 Nominees for setting a standard of excellence and inspiring us all with great television.”

In addition to the presentation of the International Emmy® Awards for programming, the Academy will present two special awards. The International Emmy® Founders Award will be presented to Dick Wolf, creator and executive producer of Law & Order for his creative accomplishments over the last 25 years and for his international success with Law & Order. The International Emmy® Directorate Award will be presented to Phoenix Satellite Television Founder and Chairman, Liu Changle, for growing Phoenix into a multimedia empire broadcasting in Mandarin in over 150 countries.
